Why it's important to put on this play
Three reasons
It will inspire young girls to be leaders
Gender diversity in leadership brings innovation, creativity, legal equality and economic improvements.
AWARENESS ABOUT WHAT IT‘S LIKE FOR WOMEN IN POLITICS
Things have not changed much in 100 years. We are still decades from parity and women who do embrace leadership face harassment and violence.
IT WILL BRING AN AMBITIOUS, ORIGINAL WORK TO CANADIAN STAGES
The Bee's Knees employs a large cast (a majority of them women) as well as a collaborative creative team. The play is also easily adapted for film and television.
Still relevant 100 years later
Other than the great music and fabulous costumes, why produce a history play? Because of its relevance to today. By looking back we get inspiration to go forward.
During the early 1920s, people were recovering from WWI and the Spanish Flu. Yet it was also a time of great innovation, and woman all over the world won the vote. But people struggled with a polarized society, changing roles and how to cope with a world moving way too fast.
WE CAN ALL RELATE.
